HfG was a private institution and remained dependent on support throughout its existence: on donors, on grants from the city, the state and the federal government, and on the goodwill of politicians, entrepreneurs and journalists. Inge Scholl, Otl Aicher and Max Bill campaigned tirelessly for supporters, in the face of much incomprehension and some open resistance. Hans G. Conrad therefore photographed not only teachers and students, but also figures from business, culture and politics who came into contact with HfG. His pictures show the social environment in which the young institution moved.
